BEVA Congress 2009
Dates: 9th-12th September
Birmingham, UK
BEVA Congress 2009 is back in Birmingham, a popular and central location with easy access for international delegates. Birmingham is a vibrant, multicultural city with the youngest population of any European city. The city is a centre for the arts, shopping, partying and eating and the state of the art conference centre is ideally located at its heart.
The BEVA Congress scientific programme develops every year and builds on what has gone before. The programme is designed to offer wide choice to as many delegates as possible but without compromise on quality, rigour or depth. The programme features varied lecture styles and formats and will include our popular, tried-and-tested formats including state-of-the-art reviews and panel discussions. New for 2009, in addition to our core sessions for practitioners, the programme features in-depth sessions, table top workshops, controversial ‘light the blue touch paper’ topics, refresher sessions and more.
The refresher sessions will be of particular interest to those returning to or starting out in equine practice, or any practitioners looking to refresh or develop key skills and knowledge. These sessions will offer practical advice and guidance from experts and practitioners, including ‘top tips’ and ‘when things go wrong’
Most sessions will be of interest to all in general practice but the programme will also include several clearly branded ‘In depth’ sessions that will have a narrow focus and cover cutting edge clinical science techniques and research. Major session themes that will be of interest to all include the foot, laminitis, the suspensory apparatus, pain management, oncology, wound management, dermatology, ophthalmology, gastroenterology, management of competitive injuries and the geriatric horse. The session ‘Towards 2012’ will examine how veterinary experiences from the 2008 Hong Kong Equestrian Games should inform preparations for 2012. There will be a major focus on practical reproduction topics including controlling the reproduction cycle, uterine biopsies and cytology, dealing with rectal tears, ovarian ultrasound and a mare discussion panel. New for 2009 will be a ‘Research in practice’ session covering practical epidemiology, study design and the challenges of conducting research in practice. Congress 2009 will also have sessions on welfare and the working horse and donkey.
